My Hero

You know how when you're growing up and going through school, every so often somebody will ask, "who's your hero?"

What they're really asking, of course, is who your role model is. "Who do you look up to?" "Who do you want to be like when you grow up?"

I never really had an answer to that question.

Most kids give essentially the same answers: usually celebrities like actors, musicians, or athletes. Others will say people they know personally, like relatives. Some kids will go with influential people like politicians or (more rarely) scientists.

But I could never give an honest answer. There were people I looked up to sure, and people I admired. But none that I actually wanted to emulate or that had made a personal impact on me.

Now, however, I do.

I have a hero, and his name is John Green.

John Green is an award winning author of YA novels, as well as running the vlogbrothers and Crash Course channels on youtube with his brother Hank (who is equally awesome). The two of them are also the center of Nerdfighteria, the greatest community I have had the joy of knowing and being a part of.

I could say lots of things about how awesome he is, but it's easiest to let you see for yourself. So, go watch vlogbrothers videos!

Here's one, where John answers questions and gives advice:

Ex

Why do you still call me and message me?

We broke up over a year ago.

You're engaged now, and own a house.

I really don't want to know

How things are or what you wish had gone differently.

I have my own problems, you see.

After everything you put me through

I don't know why I should care

Or what you expect me to do.

Just leave well enough alone, and leave me be.

Headphones

I needed to get new headphones today because my earbuds crapped out on me last night.

So, I got these:

The sound is great, but there's a slight issue. They're the kind that are supposed to kinda clip onto your ears (which I didn't realize until I'd opened them), and they hurt because they're trying to occupy the same space as my glasses.

Needless to say, this makes actually using them somewhat tedious.

We now return you to quality posts at some other blog.

Disappointment

I hate this.

Such a simple task,

But I let you down,

Unable to do what you ask.

I've always been a failure

No matter what I do,

But now I've made you

Disappointed in me too.

Summer!

I finished up with finals yesterday, making this my first full day of summer. TIME TO CELEBRATE!

By celebrate, I of course mean blog about what I'm doing this summer.

Since I still don't have a job, I'll have a lot of spare time the next few months. Luckily, I have quite a few ways of filling that spare time.

First and foremost is blogging. I'm going to post something here every day. I'm going to be honest with you, a lot of days it will probably be something short, like a poem or a sketch. At least once a week, though, I will have a longer post for you, either a short story or an article type thing. I'll also be spending a lot of time blogging on tumblr.

Other than that I'll be dividing most of my time between reading and gaming. I have plenty of books on my To Read list that I haven't had time for with school work occupying me, and I haven't gotten to spend nearly enough time playing Fallout: New Vegas. (Actually, I've spent quite a bit of time playing it, but with all of the alternate endings and different ways of playing, it could easily take up my entire summer if I let it.)

I also plan on getting in shape this summer. I'm sick of being fat, and now there's really no excuse not to go running. (Until it gets hot anyway. Then there will be plenty of complaining.) Also hiking. My crossbow has been pretty neglected the last few weeks too, so I'll be working on my... is it called archery when you're using a crossbow? Or does it have its own term?

I'd love to go camping this summer, but I don't have any definite plans for that.

Oh, and Jeremy (I know you'll read this at some point): WE ARE HANGING OUT. No excuses.
